Aubrey K. Smith, Jr., MHA is an Adjunct Instructor with the Bachelor of Science in Health Services Program at Virginia Commonwealth University and the Associate Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Health Management and Policy at Georgetown University. He is an administrator and educator with experience and professional interests in healthcare and higher education operations and strategy, organizational behavior and leadership, and healthcare management education.
AJ brings experience from a range of healthcare settings, including administrative roles at two leading pediatric academic medical centers. As an Administrative Fellow at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, he supported enterprise-wide initiatives spanning operational and financial analysis, strategic planning, process improvement, and executive communications.
As an educator, AJ’s teaching reflects a blended approach that connects theory with practice, emphasizing applied learning and career preparation to support students as emerging professionals. He is committed to ongoing professional development and continuously seeks opportunities to strengthen his teaching and leadership practice.
He is currently involved with the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA), serving as a reviewer for undergraduate program certification. Previously, he was active with the Georgia and University of Georgia Chapters of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), as well as the Atlanta Chapter of the National Association of Health Services Executives (NAHSE).
AJ is pursuing a Doctor of Healthcare Administration at Oklahoma State University and completing the AUPHA Certificate for Teaching in Healthcare Management. He previously earned a Master of Health Administration from the University of Georgia and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (Operations and Supply Chain Management), with a minor in Leadership Studies, from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
