Virgil Phillips, PhD

Dr. Virgil Phillips Jr. received his Bachelor of Science in Health Services Administration from James Madison University, Master of Business Administration from Capella University and PhD in Higher Education Administration with a specialization in Educational Leadership at Liberty University.

Dr. Phillips has worked in a variety of healthcare settings, including as a Community Health Worker in the Emergency Room, AHC Program Coordinator, Program Manager, and is currently the Supervisor of Community Health at VCU Health. Within his role at VCU Health, he supervises a team of Community Health Workers and manages various programs and projects that all focus on ensuring that patients at VCU Health are provided the best health care possible. Dr. Phillips has been a big proponent in removing barriers that create health inequities – those related to geography, education, and social and financial resources through screening and connection to community partners. He works in collaboration with Virginia Commonwealth University undergraduate students and takes pride in being able to mentor and guide our upcoming generation of healthcare professionals.

Dr. Phillips strives to address health inequities and disparities to ensure that patients from all backgrounds have access to healthcare. He achieves this by promoting housing stability, food security, reliable transportation, and health literacy.
