Catherine R. Brown, M Ed, CCRP, has over 25 years of clinical research experience with an urban academic medical center and global pharmaceutical contract research organization (CRO). Early in her career she worked in communicable and infectious disease in the non-profit sector. Ms. Brown currently works with the VCU Wright Regional Center for Clinical and Translational Research as the CRP (clinical research professional) Workforce Development and Education Administrator and Program Director for VCU’s Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Clinical Research. She designs and develops academic and continuing professional development programs for VCU and VCUH clinical research professionals and affiliate institutions. She has held the CCRP (Certified Clinical Research Professional) designation for 20 years from the Society of Clinical Research Associates (SOCRA). Ms. Brown is a clinical research practitioner with demonstrated experience in organizational leadership, operations management, human resources, project management, coaching, mentoring, academic advising, career counseling, performance management and curriculum development. She specializes in CRP continuing education and career pathway consultation for current clinical research professionals, individuals entering the workforce for the first time and those from other disciplines planning to expand their current role or transfer into the field of clinical research. She has specific interest in promoting the profession to high school and undergraduate students to increase awareness of opportunities for clinical research professional academic education, internships and career development. Ms. Brown incorporates the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework in her instruction, curriculum development, academic programming and instructional design. Current areas of adult learning interest are learning science, scholarship of teaching and learning, on-line and eLearning, multi-lingual learner instruction and trauma-informed andragogy.
