Bio

Lauren Mortensen, Ph.D. serves as the Assistant Program Director of the Bachelor of Science in Health Services Program in the College of Health Professions. She holds a B.S. in Human Resource Management, an M.Ed. in Adult Learning, and a Ph.D. in Education with concentration in Urban Services Leadership.

Since joining VCU in 2010, she has held roles in Human Resources within Learning & Development and Employee Benefits before transitioning into program management. Since 2019, she has worked in the College of Health Professions, where she supports students through teaching, service learning, and program leadership. Prior to VCU, she worked in Human Resources within the healthcare field.

Dr. Mortensen’s research interests focus on organizational and leadership support of adult learners and trauma-informed teaching practices in higher education. Her doctoral research examined how working adult learners experience and perceive organizational support while pursuing undergraduate education.

Outside of her professional work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and son.
